Specialist biotech funds showed a clear preference for high-conviction accumulation this week ending August 17, 2026, with Baker Bros. Advisors and Avoro Capital Advisors driving the most notable position changes across their respective portfolios. Baker Bros. continued to build its stake in Revolution Medicines (RVMD), lifting its position to approximately $2.1 billion, a move that carries additional weight given that RVMD is now held by nine funds in aggregate with a combined $4.4 billion in disclosed positions — one of the strongest convergence signals in the biotech space this week. Baker Bros. also increased its exposure to Insmed (INSM), bringing that position to $937.8 million, while maintaining large holds in Incyte (INCY) at $3.5 billion, BeiGene (BEIGF) at $2.5 billion, Madrigal Pharmaceuticals (MDGL) at $1.2 billion, and ACADIA Pharmaceuticals (ACAD) at $1.1 billion. The one area of reduction from Baker Bros. was Celcuity (CELC), which was trimmed to $828.1 million, a move worth monitoring given the fund's typically high conviction in its holdings.

Avoro Capital Advisors was notably active on the buy side, increasing positions in United Therapeutics (UTHR), Ascendis Pharma (ASND), and Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals (ARWR), with the UTHR add bringing that stake to $1.5 billion and ASND to $1.4 billion. The UTHR increase is particularly timely given that the company has a Phase 2 readout in neuromuscular blocking agents expected on August 31, suggesting Avoro may be positioning ahead of a near-term binary catalyst. The ARWR increase to $925.6 million reflects continued institutional confidence in Arrowhead's RNA interference pipeline at a time when the RNAi therapeutic modality continues to attract specialist capital. Together, Avoro's moves this week signal a broader thematic tilt toward rare disease and pulmonary platforms with identifiable near-term value inflection points.

On the catalyst front, the week is dense with binary events that could meaningfully move institutional positions. Pfizer (PFE) has two active readouts in play — a Phase 2 result for ATM-AVI due today, August 17, and an ipilimumab Phase 2 readout expected August 20 — while Amgen (AMGN) is set to report Phase 3 data for dazodalibep, its anti-CD40L
